ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:   $40,882.00 - 61,323.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

SUMMARY

This is a civilian position with a limited police commission responsible for performing education, inspection, investigation, and enforcement functions to ensure compliance with City Municipal Code, Land Use Code (LUC), regulations, and ordinances in regard to nuisance concerns, environmental/zero waste requirements, occupancy limits, and neighborhood livability issues within the City’s neighborhoods and commercial properties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

 

  • Proactively and reactively patrol assigned area to ensure nuisance, quality of life, and health and safety objectives are met.
  • Work with a variety of agencies and individuals throughout the inspection/investigation process; maintaining positive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Maintain situational awareness and observation skills while performing inspections.
  • Attend neighborhood meetings/trainings, neighborhood events, and community outreach.
  • Take enforcement action as required; authorize and schedule private contractor for abatement and/or issue civil/criminal citations to non-compliant people/properties.
  • Serve as a resource for neighbors dealing with a chronic problem property; providing direction, education, and assistance to resolve the problem.
  • Understand, interpret, apply, and articulate applicable LUC and Municipal Code.
  • Present to various City or neighborhood meetings; as well as various instructional classes.
  • Educate, inform, and make compliance recommendations to property owners, tenants, and other interested parties.
  • Monitor permitted events, construction sites, and industrial locations regarding noise restrictions.
  • Strive for favorable public relations; by applying conflict resolution/de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain accurate electronic files of active/ongoing cases.
  • Compile and prepare documentation of inspections for court proceedings and be articulate in explaining case findings through testimony.
  • Investigate properties to identify occupants, owners, or other persons of interest to prove or disprove violation of occupancy limits.
  • Perform passive evidence collection, observation, and surveillance as well as conduct interviews and complete interior inspections of properties.
  • Build relationships and educate the regulated community about environmental/zero waste requirements.
  • Assist various City departments with inspection, notification, and enforcement duties.
