Gallegos Sanitation Invests in the Children of our Community

For over fifty years, Gallegos Sanitation has served the Northern Colorado community’s waste removal needs with an emphasis on service, innovation, and sustainability. GSI provides residents, businesses, and special events with traditional waste removal, recycling services, green waste solutions, and temporary sanitation options.

Not only is GSI known for their top-notch waste removal solutions, but their commitment to serving our community is second to none. The friendly faces of Gallegos Sanitation team hard at work are instantly recognizable around town, and the employees and leadership at GSI take pride both in being a part of and in serving the community. While GSI supports many local non-profit organizations through donations, fund-raising efforts, and sponsorships, they also offer several programs just for local children.

In 2017, GSI began providing Colorado Eagles hockey tickets to survivors of child abuse through an initiative called Home Ice for Hope. Working closely with ChildSafe Colorado, GSI provides each recipient with a pair of tickets to a hockey game on home ice with the aim of lending a hand and offering an enjoyable diversion in the long process of healing from abuse. Home Ice for Hope and GSI hope to supplement the work that ChildSafe Colorado does to help children heal from trauma.

Green Kids Art Project or Make Every Day Earth Day is an initiative by GSI designed to enhance artistic expression, foster environmental stewardship, and provide a fundraising source for participating schools. Upon request, GSI provides a large roll-off waste container (a “blank canvas” if you will) to local schools or individual classrooms. Students paint a mural on the container which is then returned to GSI for use by contracted customers at local businesses, construction sites, special events, and homes. A portion of the contracted sales from each school or classroom’s painted roll-off are donated back to the school or classroom. Not only is the painted roll-off a fun and engaging project for students, but it can also be an impactful source of extra school or classroom funds.

The Kids Corner section of the Gallegos Sanitation website suggests fun and interesting projects for kids (and adults!) on a rotating basis. The current project is Recycling with Worms and details how to build the perfect worm habitat for optimum recycling efficiency. Be sure to check out the website at https://gsiwaste.com/community/kids-corner/ to learn more about recycling with our wiggly friends!
