Horse & Dragon Brewing Company has teamed up with the Colorado Avian Research and Rehabilitation Institute to bring you kestrel chicks, right in the back of the brewery. Now if you’re like us, you’re probably wondering what a kestrel is – by definition, a kestrel is a type of falcon, and is one of the smallest ones found in North America. In an effort to combat the declining numbers of the kestrels in North America, Horse & Dragon installed a nesting box in their backyard, hoping to attract a nesting pair of kestrels.
Millenium, the kestrel that found a home in Horse & Dragon’s nesting box, began her 30-day incubation period on her eggs at the beginning of May, meaning that her eggs should be hatching around June 2nd or 3rd.
In honor of the hatching and the partnership struck between these two organizations, Horse & Dragon is launching a new beer called Kestrel Run Hoppy American Wheat Ale, which will feature Mosaic hops and Troubadour Maltings’ Antero White Wheat and will be released on June 2nd, at their hatching watch-party, from 12-6 p.m..
For each pint of this beer sold in the tasting room, Horse & Dragon will donate $1 to the Colorado Avian Research and Rehabilitation Institute. This donation will help to continue their research on the kestrel and to develop an American Kestrel Nest Box Trail, with which they hope to combat kestrels’ declining numbers.
In the meantime, tune into their livestream to watch Millenium and her partner in their final stages on the incubation period, and join Horse & Dragon to celebrate the hatching of these new kestrels on June 2nd!
