Elder Pet Care is a nonprofit veterinary service dedicated to providing low-cost veterinary services to senior citizens with pets. Pets provide companionship and are very therapeutic to all people, but especially to senior citizens who have a limited income and live alone. Elder Pet Care takes care of our senior community as well as our pet community in Fort Collins. So you can imagine how devastating it was when Dr. Thomas, owner and veterinarian of Elder Pet Care, lost a grant that helps make the organization possible.
With a passion for people, our community, and furry friends, William Oliver’s decided to step up in this time of need. In partnership with Horse and Dragon, William Oliver’s was able to raise over $850 for Dr. Thomas and her veterinary clinic at an event titled Snug for Love last December. Horse and Dragon contributed a keg of their vanilla caramel double cream ale (Snug). For every donation, guests received a pint of Snug!
But William Oliver’s does not stop at pet care. Tiffany and Ryan Wallace, two of the pub’s owners, have created many events to give back to the community. Pub patrons love to play a dice game called Klackers, where they bet a dollar. If they win, they get a free shot. If they lose, the money goes to a local charity that was chosen for the month.
The local pub also donates to Life for the Innocent, a group that rescues children from human trafficking in South Asia. LFTI partners with communities to reunite children with their families. If it is not possible to bring the families back together, children are placed with adoptive parents called “Forever Families”. William Oliver’s brewed a specialty charity beer with Grimm Bros. The proceeds from each pour goes to that charity. They also make standard business donations to help out this amazing organization.
There are so many worthwhile causes to contribute to, and William Olivers has found a few that they are very passionate about. As Colleen Hunt, the front of house lead, put it, “I believe it’s what makes William Oliver’s so much more than a bar. You get a sense of comfort and kindness immediately upon entering the doors, and I’m honored to help spread this joy in whatever way I can.”
